Emergent Sound for Resonant Bodies

Emergent Sound for Resonant Bodies aims to provide an inclusive, restorative space where deep listening and collaborative improvisation transcend traditional boundaries and settings and encourage authentic and diverse ways of engaging with sound.

Each month a new ensemble of musicians gathers for the very first time to respond to an artwork, a statement, a poem, a video, or other art forms, in an improvised collaborative soundscape; using instrumentation to discuss and inquire together.

We invite attendees to attune to the subtle resonances of the space and each other as it unfurls. We encourage being with the sound in a way that suits each individual; this could look like sitting, standing, moving, drawing, meditating, sleeping and more. Our mission is to cultivate a nourishing environment that nurtures connection, empathy, and creativity, embracing a post-human perspective that honors the diversity of life and the power of sound to heal and transform and ground.

In the spirit of embracing an ecological condition, as articulated in "Embodying an Ecological Condition" (Newon), 'We must recognize our bodies as integral components of the ecological systems they inhabit, where the boundaries between self and environment are fluid and interactive.' Exploring the sound as the “entire continuum from the audible to the inaudible spectrum, including silence, noise, quiet, implicit and imagined sound”. This approach aligns with our intention to create spaces where sound and interaction facilitate a profound sense of interconnectedness and environmental awareness. By reconnecting with the sensory and embodied experience of sound, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of our place within the broader ecological context and encourage a more harmonious relationship with our surroundings."
