A joyful and relaxed clay workshop to get creative alongside your little one. This workshop is gently structured so that your little one can ease in at their own pace. Together, you’ll design and build your own colourful portrait plates using a beginner-friendly inlay technique, where you place coloured soft clay into a design then roll it into the surface. This simple yet satisfying process allows you to craft bold, personal designs that capture personality and play.

Once your designs are complete, all your hard work is complete. I shape them into plates/bowls for you and take care of the firing and finishing. Your vibrant creations are ready to collect from the studio in 4–6 weeks, or postage can be arranged for those living further afield.

Nerikomi

Although the word nerikomi comes from Japan, where the technique was popularised in the late 20th century, its roots reach back much further. Marbled clay can be traced through China’s gi ware of the Song dynasty, England’s agateware, and even earlier experiments in Rome and Egypt. In this playful one-off workshop, you’ll explore the contemporary approach to nerikomi, layering two contrasting clays to form striking patterns, each piece entirely unique.

You make two pieces, and are welcome to take the rest of your nerikomi block home to continue making. All the instructions and information on public firing is provided in a print out. your pieces will be glazed and ready to collect 4-6 weeks after the workshop.

A selection of wine, tea and snacks are included

Private At-Home Workshops

Private at-home workshops offer a more personal and flexible experience, Its perfect for those who prefer to create in their own space. Each session is tailored to your needs, whether that means accommodating sensory sensitivities or simply exploring something creative and fun with friends or family.

Workshops can be a one-off creative session or ongoing private tutoring to build confidence and develop your skills over time. They’re suitable for both children and adults. For workshops with children, a responsible adult will need to be present in the home for the duration of the session.

At-home workshops work best for groups of up to six, depending on your space. I’ll bring all the materials we’ll need for our time together. We can explore techniques from my regular Portrait Plates and Nerikomi workshops, or design something completely unique; perhaps your little one wants to sculpt frogs, or you’d love to make your own cups for morning coffee. The sky’s the limit!

All works take around 4–6 weeks to be fired and finished, and pieces can be either collected or delivered once ready.

Prices of private classes vary depending on location, style, time and participants. Have an idea in mind? Get in touch at kayleigh.heydon@gmail.com and we’ll shape it together.
